First league defeat for Marco Rose - Grifo's Dream Free-Kick Initiates The Next Dortmund Damper:

SC Freiburg surprisingly prevailed against BVB in the first home game of the new season.

At the beginning of each of the two sections, the Breisgauer struck ice-cold, over 75 per cent possession of the ball did not help the sometimes unimaginative guests. Thus, Dortmund suffered the second defeat in a row within a few days.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich had to do without Gulde after the 0-0 win in Bielefeld, for whom he was too early to play after his hip contusion.

He replaced offensive man Sallai. Newcomer Eggestein first took a seat on the bench. Also noteworthy was the commitment of captain Günter, who rose to become the sole record player for the Breisgauer with his 237th game for the SC.

Dortmund coach Marco Rose only made one change after the 1: 3 in the Supercup against FC Bayern, Malen started for Moukoko and thus made his debut in Dortmund dress.

Grifo's dream free-kick sits - Bellingham fails several times

The first minutes in the Freiburg Dreisamstadion belonged to BVB, who saw themselves early behind: Passlack had fouled Höfler unnecessarily, Grifo slammed the ball at rest on the inside post and into the net (6th).

Dortmund continued to set the tone but kept making a few mistakes defensively. Nevertheless, after a great solo (11th), Haaland (14th) and again Bellingham, who headed the post (32nd), had enough chances to equalize.

But the SC remained dangerous, even if he could not use the many mistakes of the BVB back team to score a second goal before the break.

Schlotterbeck (30th) and above all Jeong (33rd) had the 2-0 on the head (Schlotterbeck) or foot (Jeong).

The longer the game lasted, the more desperate and unimaginative were the attacks of the Rose-Elf, in which Guerreiro made his debut this season for the ailing Schulz in the 38th minute.

Freiburg hits early again - this time BVB can answer

Both teams started the second round without any further personnel changes. And nothing changed in the game at eye level either.

BVB worked out a few corners - but again conceded a goal early: Bellingham lost the ball to Höfler, then the SC quickly switched and via Jeong and Höler the leather landed at Sallai, who gave Kobel no chance (53rd).

But again, BVB was not shocked - this time it was even able to strike back. Passlack's flank accidentally pushed Freiburg's Keitel over his own line (59th).

So the Dortmunders still had half an hour, but they continued to struggle. Also because Haaland was not seen for a long time - and when he did, he sometimes missed his chances miserably (68th).

BVB worked their way forward little by little, but the really big opportunities stayed away for a long time, and the many fresh forces and over 75 per cent possession of the ball did not change anything.

Eggestein and Schade debuts ennoble Freiburg victory

The SC actually brought the result without the greatest tremor over time, because BVB simply did not get into the penalty area dangerously.

Schade's Bundesliga debut and Eggestein's substitution rounded off the Freiburg victory. Dortmund, on the other hand, suffered the first defeat in the league under the new coach Marco Rose.
