News Of American actor Regis Philbin Died:

American actor Regis Philbin, the host of small screen soft talk shows for decades, has died at the age of 88.

His family told NPR in a statement, "We are deeply saddened that our beloved Regis Filbin died last night of natural causes due to embarrassing one month of his 89th birthday."

With a personality bigger than his life, Filbin cultivated an air of informality on his talk show, well known for his fun banners with his co-hosts.

Although Regis Philbin on television spread charisma, he was suffering from a lack of confidence in his youth.

After graduating from Notre Dame, he lacks the talent to make it to the showbiz after two years in the Navy.

On his last day, one of the Marines asked Major Regis Philbin what he wanted to do with his life.  Regis Philbin began his television career in the 1950s as an NBC pageant for The Tight Show.

He worked as a newscast broadcaster for several years before he became Joey Bishop's sidekick on The Jop Bishop Show before getting his first big break in 1967. From there he went to host a local morning show.

The biggest stroke of his fortune may have come when Kathy Lee Gifford joined him in 1985 as a co-host of ABC's The Morning Show in New York City.

The pair were so successful that three years later Live with Regis and Kathy Lee were nationally syndicated. With impressive ratings, it was the cornerstone of American television in the 90s.

In 1999, Regis Philbin took on another role - the opening host of ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

He continued to host the show regularly until 2002, creating his famous question - "Is this your final answer?" - a national catchphrase. Meanwhile, Regis Philbin continued his day job as the host of Live.

After Gifford left the show in 2000, Filbin went through several guest co-hosts, before soap opera actress Kelly Ripa was chosen as his permanent partner in 2001.

They worked for almost a decade before the Philippines withdrew from the show in 2011. Age 80.
