He came to VfL Wolfsburg as a teenager and stayed for a total of eleven years. Now Sergei Karimov died at the age of only 33.

VfL Wolfsburg mourns the loss of its former player. Sergei Karimov, born on December 21, 1986, in Saran (Kazakhstan), grew up in Wolfsburg.

As a 14-year-old he came to VfL, went through the youth teams and played for the club for a total of eleven years.

In the 2008/2009 season, he celebrated the first and still the only Wolfsburg championship with the team under coach Felix Magath.

The highlight of his career was also the round of 16 in the cup against FC Schalke in 2008 when Sergei Karimov equalized to 1: 1 shortly before the final whistle and converted the decisive shot in the penalty shootout.

Overall, his career was rather unfortunate. Sergei Karimov could not prevail in the Bundesliga team of Wolfsburg, came to five Bundesliga appearances between 2007 and 2011, one of them in the championship season.

The defender finally moved to MSV Duisburg in 2011/2012 in the second division, but was also unable to establish himself there and only remained for one season.

Sergei Karimov tried it in 2014 in the league with Lupo Martini Wolfsburg. However, due to injury, he could only play once. Then he ended his career.
