gladiator 2

Gladiator 2:

Nearly 20 years ago, "Gladiator" with Russell Crowe and "Joker" Joaquin Phoenix became a hit with the cinema and Oscar success.

Now there will be a late sequel. We summarize the current status of "Gladiator 2" for you.

Gladiator 2 script:

Again and again, there were plans for "Gladiator 2", but never was it going forward. Now Ridley Scott is still making a sequel to his "Gladiator".

The script was written by author Peter Craig ("The Town," "Bad Boys For Life"). That's it: 25 - 30 years later, the young Lucius (then Spencer Treat Clark) is in the centre.

The son of Empress Nurse Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) should remember the Gladiator Maximus (Russell Crowe), who once saved his life.

He wants to emulate his example and provide justice for himself. It's a rather typical, relatively straightforward sequel.

There was also a completely different, crazy idea, even with a whole script. We'll never see them, but because she's so pretty crazy, we really want to introduce her here.

Gladiator 2 movie:

At the personal request of Russell Crowe himself, who fancied a sequel to himself in the lead role, singer Nick Cave, a true superstar, wrote a screenplay for a 'Gladiator 2' that made this comeback despite the character's death in the first Part would have been possible.

The Australian singer, who later with "The Proposition" and "Lawless" actually wrote filmed scripts, therefore thought up "Gladiator 2: Christ Killer":

The dead Maximus (Russell Crowe) in Cave's version is sent back to earth by the ancient Roman gods - into the past. Because Jupiter and Co. are dying because most of their former followers believe only in the one God who sacrificed his son for the people.

Maximus is now to prevent Jesus ever from becoming a martyr - by killing him beforehand ("Terminator" style).

Since the story is located far in the past ("Gladiator" itself plays around 180 years after Christ's birth), Maximus would be the only connection to the original.

That no one wanted to implement this idea is understandable. That would be rather crazy and we can really imagine how studio bosses scratched their heads in disbelief when the concept was pitched to them.

Who finally pulled the plug is controversial. According to Cave, Crowe did not like the idea and rejected it directly.

According to Ridley Scott, the star had fought for the script. Scott also describes Cave's screenplay as "narrative brilliant", but then it was just not content at the end.

Gladiator cast:

With the idea now pursued, to tell the story of Lucius, who is now a handsome man with his own family and children, per se seems the door to a return from Russell Crowe.

But perhaps the one for "Gladiator" with his only Oscar awarded Australian is still there. Because Scott hinted that Maximus will be noticeably present because Lucius lives his life in memory of this.

Although he is dead, Maximus is a kind of mentor to Lucius. Naturally, this can also be implemented according to whether Maximus speaks to Lucius as a voice from the off or perhaps even appears to him as a ghost.

When "Gladiator 2" now appears with the more conventional continuation idea is not yet known. Supposedly the project has a very high priority at Scott, but obviously many other things do that as well.

It is now relatively safe that he, together with Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Ben Affleck and shooting star and Emmy winner Jodie Commer ("Killing Eve") once turned the historical drama "The Last Duel".

The next project is "Gladiator 2" so not - and so you have a little question mark behind it when the movie could actually come.

Also, because despite his high age (he will soon be 82!) All the time still very busy Scott after two films in 2017 (Alien: Covenant" & "All money in the world) now neither 2018 nor 2019 has released a movie.

For the first time since the end of the 90s, there is no Ridley Scott movie for two consecutive years (1998/1999). Which movie did he follow than on the break? "Gladiator"!

Gladiator movie:

This will be available tonight on Free-TV. RTL 2 shows "Gladiator" on Friday, October 25th, at 8.15 pm - but probably in an abridged version.

The gladiator 2 online:

By the way, those who are interested in Nick Cave's "Gladiator 2: Christ Killer" can also spend the evening reading the script, which has since been published online.
