Formula 1 Mexico 2019

Formula 1 Mexico 2019:

In the high altitude of Mexico City Ferrari delivers on Friday a strong performance: Sebastian Vettel 0.6 seconds ahead of the fastest Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel has won an eventful second free practice in Mexico.

The Ferrari driver set the fastest time of the day in 1: 16.607 minutes on the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodromo, putting Max Verstappen (+0.115 seconds / Red Bull) and his teammate Charles Leclerc (+0.465) in the lead (Formula 1 2019 live in the Ticker).

The Monegasque made on Friday afternoon, especially with two turntables attention. First, he turned into turn 1, over time, he then made a spectacular departure in the fast middle section, as he drove too hard over the curb and turned at full speed.

He was lucky that he did not steal anywhere. The luck did not have Alexander Albon namely: He also lost in this section his car out of control.

But the Thai could not intercept him and hit in turn 7 laterally in the track boundary. The red flag interrupted the bustle for twelve minutes.

formula 1 Mexico:

We are not good enough. We already guessed that this could be a difficult track for us. We just do not have the performance.

Mexico is one of our worst routes. Last year we had 'cold graining', and this year we are missing the engine power compared to the others.

Mercedes has yet to catch up :

From the positive first training was not much to see at Mercedes - at least not on a lap.

If Lewis Hamilton got the fastest time (albeit on softer tires) in the morning, he was only fifth behind team-mate Valtteri Bottas. His backlog was almost a second, that of Bottas 0.6 seconds.

The Finn, too, had to survive his fright as he turned at the entrance to the stadium. Previously, he had braked and had driven too fast through the curve.

"We already knew it could be a tough track for us, we just do not have the performance, Mexico is one of our worst tracks, we had 'cold graining' last year, and this year we're missing the engine power compared to the others. "

Numerous rides and turns formula 1 experience USA:

As in the first session, there were again many departures - especially in turn 1. Daniel Ricciardo (Renault), Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo),

Carlos Sainz (McLaren), Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Lando Norris (McLaren), Daniil Kwjat (Toro Rosso), Romain Grosjean (Haas) and Kevin Magnussen (Haas) all had to cut across the field.

Meanwhile, the Long runs brought little information. The only certain thing is that the soft tires broke in on all pilots.

After just five laps, the pilots reported strong graining, accompanied by fast-falling lap times. On the medium tire, Mercedes seemed to be faster than Ferrari in the beginning.

Lewis Hamilton was able to drive for a long time in the range of 1:21 minutes when Vettel was already in the range of 1:22 on the way.

However, the Mercedes driver put in the meantime, again and again, a slow lap - so the times are to be treated with caution.

Toro Rosso surprised formula 1 California:

The positive surprise of Friday is Toro Rosso, who thanks to Daniil Kwjat and Pierre Gasly led the midfield and finished sixth and seventh.

Only behind McLaren followed with Carlos Sainz (8th) and Lando Norris (10th), which were separated by Nico Hulkenberg Renault (9th). Daniel Ricciardo (13) meanwhile landed behind both Racing Point.

The problem children are again Alfa Romeo and Haas, who share the places 14 to 17 among themselves.

At the end of the field are once again the two Williams of George Russell (18th) and Robert Kubica (19th) with 3.3 and 3.5 seconds behind. Last was after his accident Alexander Albon.

The third training starts tomorrow at 17h CEST. The favourite on Saturday is Ferrari. "I do not think we can keep up with them in qualifying because they're just too fast," says Verstappen.

"Otherwise, we're all pretty much in a similar speed range, but they're just miles ahead, that's the way it is right now."
